Your wedding flowers are a key part of your big day, and proper storage after pickup ensures they look their best when it’s time to walk down the aisle. Whether you’re picking up a bridal bouquet, centerpieces, or other floral arrangements, follow these tips to keep them fresh and vibrant. Let's learn how to store your wedding flowers!
Best Storage Option: A Fridge (With Caution!)
A refrigerator is the best place to store your flowers, but there are a few important precautions:
• Keep Flowers Away from Fruits & Vegetables – Many fruits, especially apples and bananas, release ethylene gas, which shortens bloom life. Store your flowers in a separate fridge or a dedicated shelf away from produce.
• Avoid the Sides of the Fridge – Flowers touching the fridge walls can freeze, leading to wilted, damaged petals. Ensure arrangements have a buffer of space around them.
• Watch Out for Cold Pockets – The back of the fridge often gets colder due to limited air movement, which can cause accidental freezing. Place your flowers toward the front, where temperatures are more stable. Don't let the boutonnieres or other personal flowers accidently get shoved in the back.
Alternative Storage: A Cool, Dark Room
If a fridge isn’t an option, a cool and dark space can also work well. Keep in mind:
• Low Traffic is Key – Avoid high-traffic areas where flowers could get knocked over or bumped.
• Temperature Matters – The ideal temperature for florals is between 35-45°F. A basement or air-conditioned room can be a great alternative. But life happens, just choose the coolest room in your venue or rental.
• No Direct Sunlight – Sunlight speeds up the blooming process and can cause wilting. Keep flowers in a shaded spot.
Final Tips for Wedding Day Perfection
• Keep flowers in water as much as possible. Especially our elopement couples. As you drive to the different beautiful locations in Glacier, pop your bridal back in the provided vase and the boutonnieres back into the hydration chamber.
• Transport arrangements in a stable, upright position. We provide transport boxes for all of our bridals and bridesmaids.
• If storing overnight, check them in the morning to ensure they’re fresh and hydrated. If they need a little pick me up, snip the bottoms with fresh snips and place in new, clean water.
By following these guidelines, your wedding florals will be picture-perfect when it’s time to say, “I do!”
